Class of 1984:

Todd Zwetzig - kat244@flci.net
Gilbert Westhoff
Denise (Chosa) Carlson - dcarl722@aol.com
Diana (Greene) Krehmeyerdkrehmeyer@hotmail.com

The Year 1984 was filled with activities which left behind many marks. National events marking the school year were the Korean airplane that was shot down by the Russians for going into Russian territory, and the Grenada and Lebanon invasion in which American Marines lost their lives. The nuclear bomb was a big issue especially after the movie, The Day After, was broadcast on TV. The Soviet Union Leader Yuri Andropov died after months of not being seen in public.
At home, the football team received their glory in the homecoming game against our rivals, The Sterling Tigers. Proving Ft. Morgan intellectual ability, FMHS students scored among the top in the Northern Conference on the ACT in social sciences and English and scored above the state's average in all areas except math.
Club activities also stood out. Student Council held a slumber party in the gym to promote cooperation among the members. International Club took a New Mexico trip during Spring Break. M-Club brought hilarity to FMHS by having a donkey ball game in the gym in February.
The senior class made their image in a couple of ways. They were the smallest class since 1957, and graduating during Ft. Morgan's Centennial was an important event for them as well as the city.
We made our mark in many ways and 1984 was a rewarding experience for students at FMHS.

Political Antics - Reverend Jesse Jackson Became the first African American to run for U.S. President. Only to come up short to Walter Mondale in the primaries. After the primaries Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro challenged President Ronald Reagan. Reagan was the second president in 30 years to be re-elected and won.

The Seniors Were Special - All senior classes were special, but the FMHS class of 1985 was remarkable in many different ways. Many of the seniors dedicated themselves academically and earned exceptional grade point averages throughout high school. These people included Debbie Craig and Kari Poor. Kari was named outstanding math student of Northeastern Colorado. Musical talent could be found in seniors like Tina Bohl, Beth Schaefer, Carolyn Kembel, Lori Duvall, and Brent Goodman who participated in All-State choir, Top of the Nation Honor Band, All-State Orchestra, and UNC Honor Orchestra. This talent was evident in many school productions. The seniors found a multitude of ways to express themselves. This was obvious when it came to pep assemblies. Even though they were outnumbered in the auditorium, the seniors gave a good count of themselves when it came for class yells. During Spirit Week competition, every day was a new challenge for the seniors and they were up for the occasion, winning the overall competition despite an enthusiastic freshman class.
Many of the seniors will remember other important events and happenings of their last year. All will remember the friendships which brought the class together and made free hours in the senior lounge and library seem so special.

Newest Royalty - Princess Diana, 23, delivered her second British Prince: Henry Charles Albert David, known as Harry.
Rebuilding our Lady - Kids and corporations joined forces to finance restoration of Americas great symbol, the Statue of Liberty.
